A few years ago, I was on High Security (where we are locked in our cells nearly 24 hours a day), listening to the guys on the run “cell warrioring” like they always do.
Whether it’s genuine animosity, or psychological damage from living in relative isolation, or just plain amusing themselves – practically any place you go to, where people are confined in their cells all day, they will be cell warrioring.
You get immune to it, (the cell warrioring, if not the cell) to the point that you don’t even pay attention to the various complaints, threats, and insults that you hear on a regular basis.
Well, one day I’m overhearing my neighbor ranting about his breakfast tray. He was on a special diet, true enough – but the only difference between his tray and mine was that he got (or was supposed to get) a scoop of peanut butter along with his pancakes. Clearly, this guy was looking forward to that peanut butter!
The guard, exasperated, told him that he wasn’t on his list of special diets, and that if he didn’t take a regular tray – he wasn’t going to get shit!
In hindsight, that’s probably not the word he should have used. A few minutes later, when he came to pick up the empty food trays, my neighbor had a peanut butter jar filled with urine and feces – which he threw right in the guard’s face! (Do you think he got the irony of using the PB jar, after missing out on his PB?) This stuff was RANCID, and had our entire wing smelling like… well, urine and feces.
This was no ordinary blend, either – you could tell that he’d had it marinating in that jar for quite some time, and was waiting for someone to get out of line with him. I’m just glad it wasn’t me!
I had no idea he would even DO anything like that, much less be actively preparing for it. Which goes to show you that you should always try to be cautious of how you deal with people. Because you never know what frame of mind they are in. Sometimes people in prison go through things. (This guy was clearly going through some things!) It’s best to choose your words carefully, because you don’t want to get the crappy end of the deal, like the guard did… So says DannyBoy
