The whole unit may be on lockdown, but I was still able to get my tooth taken care of today. Of course, by “taken care of”, I mean having it yanked out and thrown in the trash – but good riddance!
They called me to dental, took an X-ray, and sat me on the torture table. I signed some sort of waiver beforehand, probably accepting full responsibility if they managed to kill me somehow… If that wasn’t an example of signing something under duress, I don’t know what is! I didn’t have my old-man glasses on me (ahem… reading glasses), and I would have signed ANYTHING to get that screaming tooth out of my head! I’m sure it said something along the lines of, ” We’re gonna do everything we can – but you still may pull through… ” (just kidding)
The dentist was a newer lady (new to me, anyway), so I was somewhat apprehensive. But other than the fact that she clearly used a harpoon instead of a needle, everything went fine. I’ve had experiences with broken teeth before, which resulted in marathon yanking and prying sessions, yet this one went surprisingly smoothly. During the procedure she was conscientious enough to ask if I was in any pain… I was like, “Ma’am, I was in pain when I came in here – and that was BEFORE you started tormenting me!” Of course, I kept those comments to myself, as she still had her torture utensils in my mouth. I couldn’t risk offending her – and I couldn’t exactly talk with my mouth full, at any rate.
Surprisingly, there was very little pain, even after the shot wore off. I still have a gaping hole in my mouth, but it’s already stopped bleeding – and luckily it’s all the way in the back. (Out of sight, out of mind!)
I made a promise to myself to start taking better care of my teeth, and I’ve already quit eating the hard candy that brought all this on in the first place. I need the rest of my teeth to last as long as they can. I may not have a smile like Brad Pitt – but I’m still more handsome than Tom Cruise! =~) So says DannyBoy.
