At times I think upon my life,
and what all brought me here.
I think of people I have loved,
and things that I’ve held dear.
It’s hard to think of what I’ve lost,
or what I never had.
All I know is what it cost,
and that’s what makes me sad.
For all the people I have loved
have gone away with time,
and everybody turned from me
the day I did my crime.
Everything that I have loved
has blown off in the wind,
and all the tears I’ve ever cried
won’t bring it back again.
Yet I’m not lonely being here,
although I’m here alone.
Within myself is all I need –
I guess I should have known.
